Kids Central is more than a child welfare agency: We’re a beacon of hope.
As the coronavirus pandemic continues to change our way of life, those working within Florida’s child welfare system have grown increasingly concerned about the safety of foster children and youth.

The virus has resulted in increased stress, changes to the home life and work life and more students staying home due to school closures. As teachers are generally one of the main reporters of child abuse, this means fewer eyes are on children to ensure they are safe and their families are supported. During COVID-19 there has been a decrease in calls to Florida’s abuse hotline and when school resumes, we expect those calls to increase further, meaning additional strain on agencies like Kids Central Inc.

While the odds seem to be stacked against Florida’s most vulnerable population, our community of care remains optimistic and committed to finding new ways to support youth and families in care.

However, we cannot do this work alone and rely on the generosity of community partners by supporting this Virtual 5K and other fundraising events.
